Day Three- Friday, 3/31/17
The phone alarm went off at 6am and I thought that I set it for 615am. I'm going to have to ask an Elsie's helper how to set this damn thing. It seems to only give you an option to set an alarm for 'today'. I want to set for 'tomorrow'.
(720pm- I think that I've solved the problem. You set 'every day' at a particular time. Sunday- 430am forever, then just cancel)
Plan to drink two more cups of free motel coffee and begin the run around LA Fitness at 8am, do a long workout, and head over to Paradise Lane around 1pm for more baroque madness.
When I got out to the car and drove out of the parking lot I noticed a 'check engine' light and a crazy, unintelligible symbol lit up on the dash. When I got to the LA Fitness parking lot, I checked the manual and realized that it was a 'check tire pressure' signal. Tires inflated and I don't know what's the problem.
Dread Hit Like A Hammer
I don't want to raise any red flags when I return the car before dawn on Sunday. Since the entire car rental is a racket based around insurance, I wouldn't be surprised if this could mutate into a long and involved hassle. There is a bit of road rash on the front left wheel and I could have hit some serious potholes, and the entrance to the parking lot is about a 45 degree angle, but I will plead 'normal wear and tear' and 'I'm not responsible for car service', and if all else fails 'call my State Farm agent'. However, I should have gotten it in writing when my agent said that my policy covers rental vehicles. The next time I go in to the office to pay the premium I want to find out exactly how this 'extra' coverage works. If this really is the case, how can the rental agencies make such a push to have people sign with their insurance? Wouldn't it be like going to a doctor, and having him trying to sell you some insurance even though you're already covered?
"Kay Sera, Sera- Whatever will fucking bee....."
I did have a surprisingly nice run. Temps in the high 50's, but it was very sunny. However, it turned cloudy by afternoon and the temps didn't quite make it to 70, but 'it's a dry cool'. East to 67th and then North to Union Hills and back via 55th. 44". Today I got the phone synced to the wifi and I listened to Google Play- My Music for part of the workout. 45" Recumbent Bike (Sleater Kinney). 45" Cross (silence). 30" Walk. 3.6/0 (reading CNN). 30" Cross (more CNN). 30" Recumbent Bike. 10" Steam/10" whirlpool/ pool/ whirlpool.
Physically relaxed, yet mentally tormented, I arrived at Paradise Lane just after 1pm. Cindy was on duty and she didn't bring Uncle Natty into the picture because I said that I wanted to contact Fox rental to find out what the procedure will be when I drop off the car before dawn on Sunday. I was on hold for a long, long time and I listened to him tell Cindy that he had two sisters and two brothers and his mother's name was Priscilla. I couldn't believe how easily he spun these lies. Finally the clerk answered and I learned that there is a clerk on duty 24 hrs. a day.at Fox rental cars. Oh, what joy! I then filled Cindy in on what a liar he is, but for some reason it came off as if he is some kind of 'charming man'.
2pm; We loaded him into the front seat and took off West on Thunderbird. I hoped to see some of the country (without shopping malls every seventy-five feet), but within ten minutes we were in a twenty minute traffic jam. There was a serious (no injuries) traffic pile- up at the intersection of Thunderbird and Rt. 17. He didn't have any idea what was going on and when we reached the scene, there were many police cars with lights flashing and a big plumbing truck with the front bashed in, but the only thing that he saw was the bridge under Rt. 17. In the middle of the vehicular carnage he exclaims, 'Look at the bridge'? He ain't got a clue and he's fading fast. We turned around about two miles down the road and came back to the McD's on Thunderbird....One cone/One cheeseburger. We sat in the parking lot to eat since it was much cooler today.
3pm; back at the house and Lannie arrived and Cindy left when here shift ended at three. I stayed at the house until 530pm and talked to Lannie about the house and she had me sign some papers dealing with his 'rights and responsibilities'. She will fax this stuff to Janny and Joe for signatures. At 4pm Janny called and I spoke to her about what was going on to this point and she said that Jamie, her and Melissa were going to Fiddler On The Roof (her school is putting on the play) and Joe will babysit Bo. I took a few videos which I will send to Janny about dinner at Elsie's House (the only thing missing is an appearance by the ghost of Burgess Meredith).
Lannie was making fried chicken with lots of lard and basically punishing the food with extreme heat and bias rather than cooking it, she wanted to fix me a plate (there was even some beef stroganoff still in the fridge. Natty wiped it out tonight after insisting that he hated it, and I would like to go on record that I would eat cat hair before I would touch that greasy tasteless sludge one more tine ). I wonder what Lannie feels is fine dinning and tasty cooking?
On the way out I stopped at Frys for a Steel Reserve Alloy Series Blk Berry 8.0 alc./vol...Tasty Stuff and still more Pabst, a nice complement. And, I bought an energy drink for early Sunday morning. There won't be any delicious free Motel 6 coffee.
More beers and laptop, then the rest of the salads/chips/cheese/bread....Mellowing down
