Departure Day, Sunday, 4/2/17

Phone alarm went off 420am. Shower and plan to leave the room at 515 am, check out, and on the road to the airport by 530am. I want to be at the rental return by 6am. I'm drinking a Monster Energy Zero Ultra drink because there's no free coffee. Looks like a fairly calm weather day- some storms look pretty heavy in Texas and later, Missouri. Weather shouldn't be a factor on the flight. 515 am- Leaving the room. That's it for the computer until I arrive. (Written Monday morning on the living room PC) I drove directly to the car rental return with no problem. It only took about twenty-five minutes. I didn't see exactly where to drop off the car, so I just pulled into a slot and walked to the desk. The woman said that it would be OK, and they would mail me the paperwork. Later I regretted not having 'signed off' on the deal because I was afraid of getting something in the mail about the idiot light. However, when I got into the terminal and opened up th...

Day Four- Saturday, 4/1/17

Finally I have a handle on the phone alarm. Spent most of the early morning after I awoke checking the maps to get to the airport tomorrow morning (looks easy), and then how to get out of the Renaissance long term parking (looks not so easy). Will arrive at LA Fitness around 8am and do a final, long, and relaxing workout. On the run from LA Fitness 810am. 55th North to Union Hills, West to behind 67th, South to Bell, and back- 44" (comfortable speed). A 60 degree dry cool; very nice! Very sunny- like this all day. This balmy dryness certainly has its' appeal. Not anything like a high sixty degree day in Springfield. I used the mp3 player today. 45" Recumbent Bike (Lily White). 45" Cross (Songs For A Tailor). 30" Walk. 3.6/0. 30" Recumbent Bike. I got a round of applause from the ladies and gentlemen in the steamroom. A woman poured warm water on the vent, and the steam didn't kick on. I said that it was too warm to register, and that I'd get so...

Day Three- Friday, 3/31/17

The phone alarm went off at 6am and I thought that I set it for 615am. I'm going to have to ask an Elsie's helper how to set this damn thing. It seems to only give you an option to set an alarm for 'today'. I want to set for 'tomorrow'. (720pm- I think that I've solved the problem. You set 'every day' at a particular time.  Sunday- 430am forever, then just cancel) Plan to drink two more cups of free motel coffee and begin the run around LA Fitness at 8am, do a long workout, and head over to Paradise Lane around 1pm for more baroque madness. When I got out to the car and drove out of the parking lot I noticed a 'check engine' light and a crazy, unintelligible  symbol lit up on the dash. When I got to the LA Fitness parking lot, I checked the manual and realized that it was a 'check tire pressure' signal. Tires inflated and I don't know what's the problem. Dread Hit Like A Hammer I don't want to raise any red flags...

Day Two- Thursday, 3/30/17

Up around 6am. A quiet night at the keyboard with a few Pabsts. More coffee and then a trip to LA Fitness. I plan to run the neighborhood and then hit the machines- and steam and sauna. At LA Fitness by 8am after four cups of free Motel 6 coffee. I wasn't sure that I was heading the right way on Bell, and asked a couple of guys opening up a burger joint. I was heading correctly; the fitness center is at 55th and Bell- west from the motel. Almost 70, no wind, and not a cloud in the sky. 55th north, then east, then south, then west; a 45" square. Maybe tomorrow the other way. Slow but steady. 45" Recumbent Bike (Lilly White). 45" Cross (silence). 30" Walk. 3.5/0. 30" Bike. I should have brought the recharger for the player. You have to listen to a radio signal to listen to the TV. Then, almost 45" in the steam/whirlpool/pool area. A woman showed me how to get the steam to come on. You just douse the register! On the way to Paradise I stopped at t...

Day One at 940 Westview- Early Morning

I set the alarm for 620am, but got up at 6am. Restless night. Last night I watched a documentary called LOOK AT US NOW, MOTHER! which was the story of the relationship between a Jewish daughter, about my age, and her mother. The film was almost a summation of anger issues and examples of general failure to confront the obvious. The theme seems to be that this was just the way people interacted in the 50's and 60's. This trip is further complicated by the fact that I have a temporary bridge. If this thing cracks or comes loose I'll really be in a bind. Last night I thought that a piece of it fell off, but I think that it was just a piece of food- Grape Nuts? I think that I've got everything packed. At 545am this morning I realized that I hadn't included a toothbrush, but now it's on the list. Listening to Marc Maron interview Fred Armisen on WTF I swear that this is the last time I drive to St. Louis to catch a flight. I see it as a vast opportunity for...
